Triumph of True Christianity

Triumph-Peace-Power.jpg
Pilgram Marpeck. Marpeck was a leader of South German Anabaptists in the city of Strasbourg. When the Lutheran princes, supported by the Lutheran theologians, took up the sword to defend the Reformation, Marpeck wrote this tract in defense of nonresistance and the way of the cross.

Though written in response to specific happenings in his day, there is a timelessness about this tract of Pilgram Marpeck. We too need to hear his warning not to let the arguments of the unfaithful church lure us into thinking that Christians can take up arms to defend the cause of Christ. Most of the objections raised against nonresistance in the 16th century are the same arguments used today. So Marpack’s answers to those objections are just as fresh and pertinent today as they were then. Then, as now, the triumph of true Christianity rests on following the suffering Lamb, who is also our victorious King.
