This is the true story of the author¡¯s grandfather, Harry Stauffer, who at the age of four saw his little world fall sadly apart upon the death of his mother. He and his five siblings were placed by their father into various foster homes. Harry¡¯s life became one long round of uncertainty, rejection, and heartache.

The tide changed for Harry when he was kindly taken into the home of an elderly Menno-nite deacon and his wife and daughter. There at last he experienced love and a stable home. There he was also introduced to the plain way of life in an Old Order Mennonite setting. This account of Harry¡¯s youth, baptism, courtship, marriage, and adult responsibilities is filled with human interest.
