Ephrata Cloister Chorus. This CD contains 28 tracks of beautiful, other-worldly spiritual music from the 1700s. The first 8 tracks are hymns written by Conrad Beissel and originally sung by the members of the Ephrata Cloister. The CD also contains hymns of the Moravians, Shakers, and various Christian communities of the 1700s. The final tracks include hymns from the 19th century Sacred Harp hymnal and even a few Negro spirituals.
Most of the tracks are a cappella, but a few of the tracks have brass instruments in the background. Includes a detailed booklet about the music being sung.
