Shippensburg Christian Fellowship is a Christian church committed to radical Christian discipleship and a vision of walking faithfully in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. One of the mottoes of the fellowship is: “No one can truly know Christ unless he follows him in his life.” These words were written by the 16th century Anabaptist, Hans Denck.
This Anabaptist fellowship began in 1986 with seven families, and the first ordained minister of Shippensburg Christian Fellowship was Lynn Martin. Over the years, the fellowship grew and eventually outgrew the building in which they were meeting. The building in which the Fellowship presently meets is located right outside the small town of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. The church bought the land on which their present building stands in 1994. Doing most of the work themselves, the fellowship completed the building in 1997.
Eventually, the congregation outgrew even its new building and divided into two groups. The new group started meeting in the nearby town of St. Thomas, PA. At the present time, Shippensburg Christian Fellowship is comprised of thirty families, plus a number of visiting families who have not yet joined the church.
In 1994, Marvin Wadel was ordained as a deacon to serve along with Lynn Martin, the overseer or pastor. Lynn Martin died unexpectedly in April of 2006. In June of 2006, Harvey Reiff was ordained as overseer in his place.
Many of the young members of the church are involved in a ministry to children in the nearby town of Chambersburg, PA. The church also has its own publishing house, Benchmark Press, which has published two books and a number of booklets. Presently, the titles of Benchmark Press are distributed through Scroll Publishing Co.
In the fall of 2004, the David Goodwin family, accompanied by a number of singles from the church, planted a mission in Puerto Octay, Chile.
