The Pastor’s Wife
Nolvia Gámez is one of our recent loan recipients in the town of La Paz. She is the wife of one of the pastors in La Paz, and she has the privilege of helping her husband in his many church responsi-bilities.
Several years ago, she found herself needing to help with her home’s finances, so she decided to start a home business. Nolvia is a skilled seamstress, and she saw that there was a considerable de-mand in her town for a seamstress. After starting her seamstress business, she realized that there was no place in town to buy fabric. So with the help of a loan from the Society of the Good Shepherd, she also started buying fabric wholesale and reselling it out of her home.
The day we visited her, she handed me the following thank-you note addressed to everyone in-volved in this ministry:
I am so thankful to my God for all the wonderful things He has done in my life. I am thankful for my husband and children, who are such a blessing in church and to so many people.
Since the day I came to La Paz 18 years ago and met my husband, we have attended our present church, where we have worked in many different capacities. My husband is now the pastor of the church, and I have worked both as a church secretary and treasurer, as well as a Sunday School teacher for children and teenagers.
In my house, I work as a seamstress, making clothing for women and children. I also make curtains and bed sets, with which I have had success.
I am thankful to the Society of the Good Shepherd for the opportunity it has given me and many others who want to work. God bless all the brothers and sisters who have the desire and good will to help others in this manner.
I am also thanking God because this year the Society has brought many blessings to our home. My sales have increased, and my health has been better than in the past.
However, I do have a prayer request. A few years ago I started having sight problems, which make sewing difficult. For that reason, I have thought about changing to a different type of business. But if I start a different kind of business, I probably could not operate it out of my home. This might mean that I would have less time for my fam ily and church. That is the reason why I have not changed businesses, despite my eye problems. So please pray for me.
