During the last week of July, we had the blessing of having Jerrell Hein and his son Kurt with us in Honduras. Brother Jerrell is in charge of the program in the community of La Paz. While Jerrell and Kurt were here, they and I, along with Luis Vega, visited La Paz to meet the new loan beneficiaries and to get a closer look at the progress of the work there.

The day started early, and we made visits to every borrower and were able to see their businesses first hand. It was a great blessing to listen to their testimonies and words of gratitude and appreciation towards the Society of the Good Shepherd.

The day ended with a special time with the board of directors in La Paz, where encouragement and gratitude were exchanged throughout the evening. A local pastor was wonderfully used to give a short Bible study and to encourage everyone involved in this ministry.

In this newsletter I would like to share with you the story of one of the sisters we visited in La Paz named Mirna Espinal. I plan to share the stories of some of the other loan beneficiaries in future newsletters.

Mirna Espinal came to live to La Paz about one and a half years ago with her two daughters of ages 11 and 16. As a single mother, she had to work outside her house to support her family, but she also had to take care of her daughters. This responsibility led her to start a small neighborhood mini-mart (known in Honduras as a pulperia), for she had some experience in this. However, she had little financial resources to work from.

About three months ago, Mirna received a loan from the Society with which she bought much-needed additional inventory for her store. Besides the neighborhood mini-mart, she cooks during the weekends to sell food. Through these means, she provides for the schooling of her daughters and pays for all the household expenses. Her business is still small, but she is so thankful to God for His faithfulness in providing for herself and her children and sustaining her business in spite of the competition and the hard economic situation in Honduras right now.

Sister Mirna asked us to pray for her two daughters and also that her dream of watching her business grow will be accomplished.

Thank you so much to each one of you who one way or the other way make these blessings possible. And in a special way we would like to thank brother Jerrell Hein and his family for their love and dedication to His work.
