Honduras microloan Jami Quiroz is a hardworking mother of two: Sofia (3 years) and Jeremy (5 months). She and her husband Hermes have been working for a few years at a Christian school program started by a missionary family in a very poor Honduran community. The name of the community is San Josi de Pane, and it is located about eight miles south of Siguatepeque, Honduras—where Jami and her family live. Jami’s husband Hermes is the director of this Christian school program, and he also teaches 4th and 5th grade. Jami works part time as the school’s secretary. However, this ministry is just starting, and the funds raised are not enough to cover the family’s living expenses.

Honduras microloan As a result, Jami decided to look for a complementary job to help the family’s finances. However, having two small children, she did not want to work away from her children. Fortunately, God has given Jami creative gifts that she has developed over the years, and that gave her the idea of starting her own business at home. Her business is making and selling many types of crafts, using styrofoam and various paper materials.

Honduras microloan To get her business off the ground, Jami applied for a loan from the Society of the Good Shepherd to buy the materials and equipment she needed for her new business. When her loan was approved, she used it to buy things like styrofoam, a glue gun, silicon glue, magnets, ribbons, pins, cutters and much more. She is currently looking for shelves and tables to purchase.

Honduras microloan In my recent visit to her home and business, I was able to see some of the lovely things she makes. I was happy to learn that her business is off to a good start. Jami has sold a lot of her crafts already, and she has at least two more good-sized orders for this month. Jami expressed her gratitude to God for the opportunities He has given her and to the Society and its donors for blessing her with the means to start her business. Nancy Barahona
