Our Beneficiaries in La Paz
December, 2013

Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." Matt. 25:40

La Paz is a growing town in central Honduras where the Good Shepherd Society has a group of loan recipients. We have already shared stories of some of the beneficiaries there but we also want to share some other things this ministry is doing in La Paz.
Honduras microloan The beneficiaries in La Paz meet twice a week to pray together for their businesses, personal needs, and spiritual needs. They also receive teachings about various topics. Usually one of the directors does the teaching. Besides these meetings, they host a special meeting every six months. These special meetings are held when David and Deborah or their son Andre and his wife Elizabeth come to Honduras on behalf of the Society.

At the beginning of this past September, we had David and Deborah here. The Directors and beneficiaries in La Paz prepared a wonderful time. There was a devotional where David talked about how we need to do everything as for God, based on Ephesians 6:5-8. He also encouraged these business owners to have businesses that stand out in the middle of competition. One of the beneficiaries also shared a short devotional based on Psalm 103 and talked about reasons to be thankful.

Honduras microloan One of the Directors, Milagro Martínez, prepared a craft for everyone to do that was not only for fun but also had a teaching purpose. At first glance, we all thought it would be extremely difficult to duplicate the craft that Milagro showed us. However, in the end, we all quickly learned how. Milagro used the occasion to remind us that difficulties in life often seem harder than they actually are. We also enjoyed games, testimonies, prayer time, and fellowship together. We had just finished the meeting when a tropical thunderstorm broke out. We all enjoyed a delicious Honduran meal together while we waited out the storm.

Honduras microloan Another important part of these semi-annual meetings is the presentation of certificates to those beneficiaries who have paid off their loans since the last meeting. We do this publicly, as it honors those who have paid off their loans, and it motivates others to continue faithfully paying off their loans as well. On this occasion, David presented a certificate to Eliana Mejía, whose story we have shared in last April’s newsletter. She is the young orphaned woman who is supporting her two younger brothers by means of a pulperia. Despite the enormous responsibilities that Eliana is carrying, she paid off her loan considerably ahead of schedule, which was encouraging to all of us.

Honduras microloan We are blessed to have such a diverse, yet integrated group of loan recipients in La Paz. It is also a blessing to have a group of directors that donates so much time and effort to God’s work and does it with so much love and dedication. Thank you. Nancy Barahona
