A Young Woman Inherits a Family

Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." Matt. 25:40

Early-Christians.jpg Eliana is a young Christian woman who grew up helping her mother sell various items door to door in the villages up in the mountains of Honduras. So she is familiar with running a business. Two years ago, Eliana and her widowed mother decided to start a neighborhood minimart, known in Honduras as a pulperia. Eliana’s mother applied for a loan from the Society of the Good Shepherd, and her loan was approved. However, before there was time to receive the loan and get her business set up, Eliana’s mother had to undergo emergency brain surgery due to an aneurism. Unfortunately, the surgery was unsuccessful, and she died a few weeks later.

Early-Christians.jpg This left Eliana with two younger brothers to care for, ages 18 and 15. After waiting a year or so, Eliana decided to apply to the Society for a small business loan of her own. Last fall, we gave her a small business loan to enable her to purchase the inventory needed to run a small pulpería.

Eliana’s little business is growing, and she is able to provide for herself and also assist her brothers. She is very happy with how the business is going and how the extra finances have helped her. These are her words during a recent visit I made to see her and her business: “I am so grateful to God for this loan, and for His putting it in the hearts of so many people to provide this help. It has been a huge blessing!”

Early-Christians.jpg Eliana actively serves in her local congregation, in addition to managing a business and a household. She asked that all of you would pray for her and her brothers. Please pray that God will continue to give her wisdom and spiritual strength as she faces all the new challenges in her life.
