From Salesman to Shop Owner
Peter Rios has been a salesman during most of his life. He started as a boy selling baby shoes house to house, and he continued to sell different kinds of things as a supplemental job. He went door to door selling his products while studying in school, and he continued to do so on the side while holding a low-paying job. A couple of years ago, Peter got married to Janet, who had also done a little of that kind of business. So in February of 2010, they started their own small business of selling products door to door.
A few months after starting the business, they discovered that Janet was expecting. Peter and Janet were happy to know that they were having their first child. However, Janet’s pregnancy has not been easy. With Janet unable to work and the baby coming, Peter needed to find a way to enlarge the business so it could provide for their family.
The Society of the Good Shepherd gladly gave Peter and Janet a hand with an interest-free loan to enable them to expand their business. They were able to buy more products like clothing, shoes and various things. Now they are selling products from their living room instead of going from house to house. However, they are hoping to be able to open a small shop soon in a nearby place they will be renting.
During our visit, they expressed their gratitude toward God for allowing them to have this business and to the Society for enabling their business to grow. They are very happy and feel very blessed with the loan. Please pray for their business, so that it may grow strong and that God will give them the wisdom to manage it well. Also pray for Janet’s pregnancy and the baby’s health. She is expecting her baby in April. Nancy Barahona.
