If you want an introduction to Anabaptism, the Amish or Mennonites then you need to get this book. If you want to go deeper into the subject of Anabaptism then you need to get this book. Menno Simons was an early leader of the Anabaptist movement. Many of the later Anabaptists would take their name from Menno Simons and be called Mennonites. Menno was a very well educated and intelligent man, who renounced his life of sin to take up his cross and follow Christ wherever He may lead. Menno was one of the few early Anabaptist leaders who did not suffer martyrdom, and so he lived a long life in which he was able to write. This is to our advantage as Menno knew the Scriptures in a way not many do today. He had a good grasp of both Old and New Testaments, and what it meant to be a "Kingdom Christian". He understood what it meant to live in the world but not of it. He, by the grace of God, understood that to be in God's Kingdom we must come out of our worldly one. This book will challenge you deeply and should not be read simply as a text book, but as a disciple sitting next to one of God's greatest undershepherds. |
