| Ante-Nicene Fathers 10 volume set (2/5) | Feb 14, 2009 | a Christian pilgrim | ||
| If you like to read, this is for you. I have had two sets, and read only the first three volumes. It is long and tedious. But, like gold mining, if you are willing to work at it, there is a lot of gold in there. | ||||
| A Treasure Trove of Spiritual Insight! (5/5) | May 1, 2009 | Bobby | Arnold MO US | |
| Absolutely fantastic! With the help of volume ten, which is part of this magnificent set, you can unmistakably determine how the early Church understood Scripture, including the Apostles' teachings. Early church history literally unfolds before your eyes at the turn of each page. It will have you thinking and even re-thinking your own belief system. This reference set should be in the library of every serious disciple of Christ, particularly those who are in a position of teaching authority. A great (and much needed) companion to this set is "A Dictionary of Early Christian Beliefs", as edited by David Bercot. I would also recommend " Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History" as translated by C.F. Cruse to be seriously considered as an addition to these references at some future date. Together, they will paint a panoramic scene of the first couple of centuries of early Christian beliefs, practices and daily life. | ||||
